Service Positions

Members within Pig War further support our operations through various service positions.  Certain positions are elected by the membership while others are appointed.

Members may find out more about these positions and how they might prepare to be of service by reading our Operations Manual or inquiring with the individuals currently holding the position.

Elected Positions

  • Commander – Post executive policy maker.
  • Vice Commander – Post executive administrative officer.
  • Adjutant / Finance Officer – Responsible for all papers, files, and current Post roster.
  • Quartermaster – Maintain a supply of merchandise from National Headquarters to supply Post members.
  • Pipe Major – Chief band administrator.
  • Colour Sergeant – Leads and maintain order and discipline of the Colour Guard at parade and other ceremonies.
  • Field Headquarters Sergeant – Leads all members in completion of outreach tent / table responsibilities.
  • Historian – Record memorable events and activities within the Post; chief custodian of historical records and literary documents belonging to the Post.
  • Technology & Website Administrator – Chief technology consult, oversees website and social media locations, manages electronic storage of Post documents, records, etc.

Appointed Positions

  • 1st Aid Lead – The 1st Aid Lead is an active Post member with a current advanced level of emergency medical training; they oversee the 1st Aid Team, supplies, and coordination of these at all Post operations.
  • Regimental Sergeant Major – An honorary post, “Primus inter pares”, ceremonial in nature; primary responsibility is to advise the Commander and Post Council in matters concerning military customs, drill, and ceremonies; assists the Colour Sergeant and may lead parade / ceremony in place of the Colour Sergeant.
  • Pipe Sergeant – Assist the P.M. in administering the Pipe & Drum Corps, serves as backup to the P.M.
  • Pipe Corporal – Supports Pipe Major and Sergeant.
  • Drum Sergeant – Oversees the needs and musical direction of the percussion section; arranges rhythm scores and trains percussion section; reports to the Pipe Major.
  • Colour Specialist – Assists Colour Sergeant as needed, serves as backup to the Colour Sergent.
  • Field Headquarters Corporal – Assists FHQ Sergeant as needed; manages FHQ operations and substitutes when FHQ Sergeant is unavailable.
  • Chaplain – Ceremonial position, available to offer invocation and benediction at any 1859 function; may be asked to prepare and present services to Pig War or on its behalf.
  • Photographer – Provides photographic recording of memorable activities, parades, Post participation at Highland Gatherings, etc; works in conjunction with the Post Historian, Adjutant, and Technology Administrator supplying pictures for the website.
  • Drum Major – In charge of drill and deportment, commands band during parade; works in conjunction with band leadership.
  • Colour Guard Support – Knows colour and marching drill; prepared to support Colour Guard and relieve a member of the detail if need arises.
  • Parade & Event Recon – Scouts location of upcoming events; takes photos and notes of location, parade routes, access, possible hazards, etc; prepares and reports findings to Pig War in advance of the event.
